Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 30, 2026

This policy explains what information we collect when you visit Velour Edit, how we use it, and what rights you have. We’ve written it to be readable by a person, not a lawyer.

1. What This Policy Covers

This privacy policy applies to the website operated at velourEdit.com (and any subdomains). It covers how we handle information from visitors who browse the site, read reviews, subscribe to our email newsletter, or contact us through our contact form.

It does not cover third-party websites, including Amazon, even when you reach those sites by clicking a link on Velour Edit. When you leave this site, that site’s privacy policy governs what happens to your information.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide: When you subscribe to our newsletter, you give us your email address. When you contact us through our contact form, you provide your name, email address, and message. We don’t ask for more than we need.

Information collected automatically: Like most websites, our hosting platform and analytics tools collect certain technical information when you visit — your browser type, operating system, the pages you visit, how long you stay, the page you came from, and your approximate location (city/region — not street address). This information is collected in aggregate and is used to understand how the site is used, not to identify individuals.

3. How We Use It

We use your email address to send the Velour Edit newsletter — review alerts, reformulation notices, and ingredient analysis. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes. We use the newsletter platform Mailchimp to send emails; their privacy policy governs how they handle that data on their end.

We use aggregate analytics data to understand which reviews are most useful, how visitors navigate the site, and where we should invest our testing time. This data does not identify you personally.

We use contact form submissions to respond to your message and occasionally to improve the site if the message contains feedback. We do not add contact form submitters to our newsletter list without a separate, explicit opt-in.

4. Cookies and Analytics

Velour Edit uses Google Analytics to understand site traffic. Google Analytics sets cookies that collect anonymized data about your visit — pages viewed, time on site, referral source, general location. This data is processed by Google. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on.

We may also use a session cookie to remember your category filter preference on the reviews page. This is a functional cookie that expires when you close your browser.

Velour Edit does not run advertising cookies. No third-party advertising networks are permitted to set cookies through this site.

5. Amazon Associates Disclosure

Required disclosure: Velour Edit participates in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program. This means that when you click a link to a product on Amazon from this site and make a qualifying purchase, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you.

This commission structure does not influence our editorial decisions. Every product we review was purchased at retail before we were enrolled in the Associates program, or has been purchased with our own funds with no expectation of commission. Our “Retail Receipt Required” policy (see our About page) means we cannot accept free product from any source, including Amazon.

The commission earned from qualifying purchases helps cover the cost of the products we test. We spend approximately $14,600 per year purchasing products at retail. Affiliate income offsets a portion of this cost.

6. Third-Party Services

Mailchimp — Email newsletter platform. When you subscribe, your email is stored in our Mailchimp account. Mailchimp’s Privacy Policy: mailchimp.com/legal/privacy.

Google Analytics — Web analytics. Google’s Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy.

Amazon Associates — Affiliate program. Amazon’s Privacy Policy: amazon.com/privacy.

Cloudflare — Content delivery and security. Cloudflare may process technical data to deliver the site. Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

We do not use Facebook Pixel, TikTok tracking, or any advertising network tracking on this site.

7. How We Protect Your Data

Velour Edit is served over HTTPS. Email addresses collected for the newsletter are stored in Mailchimp, which is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. We do not store credit card information or any payment data — purchases happen on Amazon or other retail sites.

Our contact form submissions are stored temporarily and reviewed manually. We delete contact submissions after 90 days unless they contain ongoing correspondence.

No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a security breach that affects your data, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law.

8. GDPR Rights

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the UK, or Switzerland, you have certain rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

The right to access — You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

The right to correct — You can ask us to correct inaccurate data.

The right to delete — You can ask us to delete your data. For newsletter subscribers, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.

The right to object — You can object to our processing of your data.

The right to portability — You can request your data in a machine-readable format.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address on our contact page. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Your Controls and Choices

Newsletter: Unsubscribe at any time using the link in the footer of any Velour Edit email. Unsubscribing removes your email from all future sends. Existing data in Mailchimp is deleted within 30 days of unsubscribe per our Mailchimp settings.

Analytics: Use the Google Analytics Opt-Out Add-on to prevent Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits.

Cookies: Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Note that disabling all cookies may affect site functionality.

Data requests: Email us using the contact form to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data.

10. Children’s Privacy (COPPA)

Velour Edit is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has submitted personal information to this site, please contact us and we will delete that information.

11. Policy Changes

We may update this policy when our practices change or when required by law. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, notify newsletter subscribers. Your continued use of the site after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
